AstraZeneca runs pharma incentives on Kennect across several teams, roles and business units in India. Before Kennect, incentive KPIs were calculated in spreadsheets, with no complete audit record and no live view for reps or the incentive team. The need grew during COVID-19, when KPIs changed often. Kennect integrated with AstraZeneca's tools in 10 days and went live in 2 months. Every change is now logged, reps see incentives in real time, and the KPI count has grown from about 5 to 25.

AstraZeneca's pharma sales force was paid on incentives calculated in spreadsheets. Several teams, sales incentive plan admins and business units each held part of the work. When someone asked how a number was reached, there was no complete record of the changes behind it.
The field had no view either. Incentives were calculated once, at payout, so reps could not see their targets or earnings during the cycle. The incentive team relied on the MIS team for sales data and calculations, which slowed every run and every incentive query.
The number of moving parts. Each position had its own KPI calculations and incentive rules, and several people managed them. Keeping data consistent across databases and systems was a job in itself, and errors delayed payouts.
Then COVID-19 changed the business month to month. KPIs had to change more often to keep pace, and new tools were brought in to track them. The spreadsheets could not be rebuilt as fast as the KPIs changed.
The first question was integration. During COVID-19, AstraZeneca had brought in several new tools to track its KPIs. The team doubted that a new incentive system could connect to all of them.
The second was complexity. AstraZeneca was unsure a system could handle its complex KPIs. In a regulated industry, every calculation also needed a record behind it that auditors could rely on.
The principle Kennect built around: every change to a plan or a calculation is logged when it happens, not pieced together later.
Onboarding to go-live took 2 months. Compliance teams can now watch incentive data as it moves, and step in early if something looks wrong. Automation has also cut calculation errors, which matters where a small error can carry serious consequences. That record is what makes these audit-ready incentive payouts.
At go-live, AstraZeneca ran about 5 KPIs and was unsure the system could take complex ones. Once the calculations proved out, that concern went away. The team now adds a KPI when it is good for the business, however complex, and runs 25 today on the same engine.
Across roles:
| Metric | Before | After | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audit record | No complete record of changes | Every plan and calculation change logged, with real-time audit logs | Audit trail, since go-live |
| Incentive KPIs | About 5 | 25 | KPI configuration |
| Tool integration | - | 10 days | Implementation |
| Onboarding to live | - | 2 months | Implementation |
| Rep visibility | At payout only | Real-time incentives and simulation | Since go-live |
| Payout projections | Not available | Finance simulates scenarios and projects payouts | Finance reports |

Book a demoThey log every change to plans and calculations as it happens, inside the incentive system. Auditors and compliance teams can then read a complete history instead of piecing one together from spreadsheets. At AstraZeneca, Kennect logs every adjustment to plans and calculations and updates the audit logs in real time.
It depends on how many tools there are and how each one shares its data. The integration connects each source to the calculation engine without changing how teams use the tools. At AstraZeneca, Kennect integrated with the tools added during COVID-19 in 10 days.
Configure each KPI as a rule in a calculation engine, not as a formula in a spreadsheet. A change then updates one rule, and every payee on that plan is recalculated on it. AstraZeneca changed KPIs often during COVID-19 and now runs 25 KPIs on Kennect, up from about 5.
Through an app that calculates incentives on live data during the cycle, not once at payout. Reps see where they stand against each KPI and can simulate what more sales would earn. At AstraZeneca, Kennect gives reps real-time incentive visibility and simulation on the same engine Finance uses for projections.
Usually weeks to a few months, depending on the number of plans, KPIs and data sources. Most of the time goes into connecting data and configuring each KPI. At AstraZeneca, Kennect went live 2 months after onboarding began, with the tool integration done in 10 days.
